Sheriff’s deputies recover heroin during traffic stop on I-72 – Herald & Review

MACON COUNTY — A 43-year-old woman driving on I-72 was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop after police say they found over 16 grams of heroin.

A sworn affidavit said a sheriff’s deputy stopped a gold Chevy Impala at mile marker 148 because the windows on the vehicle were illegally tinted.

During the stop, the officer deployed his K9 partner Maco to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle, the sworn affidavit said. Maco alerted to the presence of illegal drugs inside of the vehicle.

The officer searched the vehicle and found about 16.4 grams of a substance that field-tested positive as heroin, according to the affidavit. The amount of heroin seemed to be consistent with delivery, the deputy wrote in the affidavit.

The 43-year-old occupant of the Impala was arrested and told officers the drugs belonged to her, the affidavit said.
