Bomb explodes in Cebu car shop owned by alleged drug lord

A BOMB exploded Thursday dawn, July 5, at a business establishment reportedly owned by alleged drug lord Peter Lim on MC Briones St. in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

No one was reported injured, police said.

The Police Station 2 of Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) received a report that a loud explosion was heard at 2:15 a.m. inside Hilton Motors Corporation.

Inspector Alfredo Reyes, Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) team leader, said they found shrapnels in the display area of the establishment.

Traffic Enforcer Arnold Malig-on said said the perpetrators were not captured by Mandaue City Command Center’s closed circuit television (CCTV) which malfunctioned past 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4.

The CCTV is located below the Subangdaku Flyover facing the skywalk near Hilton Motors.

MCPO Director Roberto Alanas said he will form a special investigation task group (SITG) Hilton to conduct an inquiry on the incident.

He describes the incident as isolated, but they still have to determine the motive behind it.

Alanas said they will check the records of Mandaue City Treasurer’s Office if Lim is the registered owner of Hilton Motors.

Chief Inspector John Abreu, the Explosive and Ordnance Disposal and K9 Group officer-in-charge, said the establishment’s security guard heard two explosions.

Two imporvised explosives were possibly thrown.

He said the perpetrators know how to create explosives, but he brushed aside the possibility that they were terrorists.

“Huwag tayong talunin sa takot sa isang isolated case,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has named Lim as one of the drug lords operating in Central Visayas, an allegation that the Cebuano businessman has repeatedly denied.

This was the second attack on an establishment believed to be owned by Lim.

Last Saturday, June 30, three men attempted to set fire to the Infinity KTV Bar in Cebu City. No one was injured. (Arnold Y. Bustamante/SuperBalita Cebu and Kevin A. Lagunda/SunStar Cebu)
